Raststätten, photojournalistic book
What we did: Photography, Text, Documentary, Layout
Every day, millions of people from all directions find their way onto the autobahns and their oases. Rest stops, “Raststätten” in German, represent islands in the sea of highways. They are parallel worlds, stops along the way, and places of longing. Our book captures moments of encounter and rests in a journalistic manner. A moment picked out of constant motion. Fascination: Journey
Every day, millions of people from all directions find their way onto the autobahns and its oases, the “Raststätten”. And although most of them use these roads simply to get from A to B as quickly as possible, many bring their own special experiences with them to their destination. This book is about traveling and resting. With the help of photos, journalistic reports, interviews, and observations, this book tells of being on the road and the fascinating worlds in between that travelers encounter along the way. Freeway adventures are on the road — and we’ve captured them...
Wanderlust
Rest stops are not just about taking a simple break. They are meant to refuel: The vehicle but also the traveler. At the same time, German rest stops truly represent a piece of autobahn history. Some of these, with their massive country house style, are still reminiscent of the 1930s, the earlier days of the autobahn. Our book allows nostalgia longing and inspires wanderlust.
